BADUNG, BALINEWS – Twenty-four inmates at Kerobokan Class IIA Correctional Facility in Badung Regency tested positive for narcotics following a joint inspection conducted by Bali Police, the Criminal Investigation Department of the Indonesian National Police Headquarters (Bareskrim Polri), and the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) on Friday (October 30, 2026).
The operation was led by Bali Police Chief Inspector General Dr. Pasma Royce, S.I.K., M.H., as part of efforts to strengthen supervision and combat drug abuse and illicit narcotics trafficking inside correctional facilities.
During the operation, officers conducted urine tests on 36 inmates. The results showed that 23 tested positive for methamphetamine, one tested positive for amphetamine, while the remaining 12 tested negative.
In addition to the urine tests, the joint team searched several areas within the prison compound. The search resulted in the seizure of 21 mobile phones, two weighing scales, 5.5 ecstasy pills, 10.36 grams of methamphetamine, and several items suspected of being used for methamphetamine consumption, including water pipes commonly known as bongs and other related equipment.
Bali Police Chief Inspector General Pasma Royce said all findings would undergo further investigation to establish ownership of the seized items, trace how the narcotics entered the prison, and identify any possible networks or other individuals involved.
As a follow-up measure, five inmates were taken to the Bali Police Narcotics Investigation Directorate for further questioning.
Pasma Royce emphasized that the findings from the operation were a serious concern for all relevant authorities. He stressed the need to strengthen supervision of inmates, prison personnel, visitors, and the movement of goods into and out of the correctional facility to prevent narcotics from entering and circulating within the prison.
Bali Police, in coordination with Bareskrim Polri and the National Narcotics Agency, pledged to strengthen cooperation and coordination in efforts to eradicate drug-related crimes, including tighter monitoring of correctional facilities.
Through this joint operation, law enforcement authorities hope to improve prevention and enforcement measures, ensuring that correctional facilities and the wider community remain free from drug abuse and illicit narcotics trafficking.
