Bali Develops Five Strategic Pillars to Cut Emissions from Energy and Transport

DENPASAR, BALINEWS — The Bali Provincial Government is developing five strategic pillars to reduce emissions through the Kerthi Bhumi Satwika Low-Emission Zone initiative, which will run from 2026 to 2030. The program focuses on clean energy, environmentally friendly transportation, ecosystem protection, green tourism, and greater public participation.

The initiative will be implemented in six designated areas: Ubud, the Nusa Penida Islands, Nusa Dua, Kuta, Sanur, and the Gajah Mada Cultural Heritage Area in Denpasar.

The first pillar, green energy, aims to accelerate the adoption of new and renewable energy sources, develop clean energy-based power generation, and improve energy efficiency.

The second pillar, green transportation, focuses on promoting battery-powered electric vehicles, environmentally friendly transport systems, and supporting infrastructure to reduce emissions from the transportation sector.

The third pillar, green ecosystems, includes forest rehabilitation, the expansion of green open spaces, the protection of coastal and marine ecosystems, and improvements in waste management at the source, alongside the development of a circular economy.

The remaining two pillars are green tourism industries and green communities. These are designed to encourage sustainable tourism practices while strengthening public knowledge, skills, and participation in environmentally responsible activities and green economic initiatives.

The program is intended to address several growing development challenges in Bali, including increasing mobility and energy demand, waste management issues, changes in land use, and the impacts of climate change.

The provincial government will coordinate and align policies with regency and city administrations. Implementation will be tailored to the characteristics of each area and the fiscal capacity of the respective local governments.

Periodic evaluations will be conducted throughout the program's implementation period to assess progress, identify challenges, and determine necessary improvements.

Through the five strategic pillars, the Bali Provincial Government aims to support emissions reduction while promoting environmental protection and more sustainable economic and tourism development across the island.
