KUPANG, BALINEWS – Four Bangladeshi nationals have been detained by the East Nusa Tenggara Regional Police's Water and Air Police Directorate (Ditpolairud) for allegedly entering Indonesian territory without undergoing immigration clearance at an official Immigration Checkpoint (TPI).
The case was formally handed over to the East Nusa Tenggara Regional Office of the Directorate General of Immigration on Monday, November 2, 2026, for further investigation and legal proceedings.
The handover took place at the regional immigration office in Kupang as part of inter-agency cooperation to strengthen law enforcement and immigration supervision across East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).
The four Bangladeshi nationals, identified by the initials TM, SB, MB, and NA, are suspected of entering Indonesia without undergoing the required examination by immigration officers at an authorized checkpoint.
According to the case handover report, the incident occurred on Sunday, October 4, 2026, at approximately 2:30 a.m. local time in Oematnunu Village, West Kupang District, Kupang Regency, East Nusa Tenggara. The four foreign nationals were subsequently detained by the NTT Regional Police's Water and Air Police Directorate.
During the initial examination, police reported that the four individuals allegedly traveled without money, communication devices, or travel documents. Each reportedly traveled separately, and investigators have so far found no confirmed connection between them.
Authorities are continuing to examine their travel patterns to determine whether other individuals or possible networks were involved in their journey and entry into Indonesia.
The suspected immigration offense is being examined under Article 113 in conjunction with Article 9(1) of Law No. 8 of 2011 on Immigration, as well as Appendix I, Point 83, of Law No. 1 of 2020 concerning Criminal Penalty Adjustments, as cited in the case handover documents.
Head of the East Nusa Tenggara Regional Office of the Directorate General of Immigration, Saroha Manullang, expressed his appreciation to the NTT Regional Police's Water and Air Police Directorate for its cooperation and handling of the case.
He emphasized that coordination between law enforcement agencies is essential to maintaining public safety and strengthening supervision of foreign nationals in the region.
"Thank you for the collaboration and the actions taken by the police. Our shared commitment is to maintain the security and well-being of the people of East Nusa Tenggara. We are also working to strengthen PIMPASA through our partner villages. There are 29 villages involved in this immigration supervision initiative. We will conduct a thorough examination and further investigation into these four foreign nationals," Saroha said.
The handover ceremony was attended by Acting Head of the Administrative Division of the NTT Regional Immigration Office Christian Penna, the Head of the Class I TPI Kupang Immigration Office and staff, the Head of the Kupang Immigration Detention Center and staff, as well as representatives of the NTT Regional Police's Water and Air Police Directorate.
The transfer was formalized through the signing of an official case handover report by representatives of the two agencies.
Following the handover, the Class I TPI Kupang Immigration Office will handle the case within its legal authority, with support and coordination from the NTT Regional Immigration Office and the Kupang Immigration Detention Center.
Immigration officers will conduct further examinations covering the identities of the four foreign nationals, their travel documents, travel histories, reasons for entering Indonesia, and their current immigration status.
Should further investigations establish violations of Indonesian immigration regulations, the authorities will take appropriate action in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
The NTT Regional Office of the Directorate General of Immigration reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening cooperation with law enforcement agencies and other relevant stakeholders to improve immigration supervision, particularly in border areas.
The initiative is also in line with the direction of Director General of Immigration Hendarsam Marantoko, who has called for stronger efforts to maintain national security and public order and to take firm action against foreign nationals found violating Indonesian law.
Through these measures, immigration authorities aim to ensure that all foreign nationals entering and staying in Indonesia comply with the country's laws and regulations, reflecting the institution's commitment to its public service mission under the slogan "Immigration for the People."
