Fuel Queues Stretch Across Bali as Governor Koster Expects Distribution to Normalize Within Two Days

DENPASAR, BALINEWS — Bali Governor Wayan Koster has assured the public that the island will not face a fuel crisis, despite long queues and fuel shortages at several gas stations in recent days. He said fuel supplies at the island’s main storage depots remain sufficient, while distribution to gas stations has been disrupted.

Koster said Bali receives its fuel supplies from two main depots: Manggis Depot in Karangasem Regency and Pesanggaran Depot in Denpasar. However, deliveries to gas stations have not been running smoothly due to traffic congestion and increased public demand.

“Supplies are sufficient and available at the Manggis and Pesanggaran depots. Distribution from the depots to gas stations has been underway since yesterday afternoon, continuing through this morning and today,” Koster said at Prama Sanur Hotel on Tuesday (October 13, 2026).

According to Koster, traffic congestion on several roads has slowed fuel deliveries, meaning gas stations are taking longer than usual to replenish their stocks.

“Distribution has not been entirely smooth because there is traffic congestion on the roads,” he said.

Koster also attributed the increased pressure on gas station supplies to public concerns about running out of fuel. He said motorists rushing to refuel at the same time had caused stocks at some gas stations to run out more quickly, while replacement supplies were still on their way.

“People may be afraid of running out of fuel, so they are going to gas stations all at once. As a result, supplies at gas stations are quickly depleted because so many people are refueling their vehicles. The available stock is not enough to meet the immediate demand, so deliveries have to be made repeatedly. That takes time,” he explained.

Koster urged residents not to panic or purchase fuel in excessive quantities. He stressed that supplies at both main depots remain adequate and that the current situation should not be mistaken for an impending fuel crisis.

“There is really no need to panic because we can confirm that supplies are available and sufficient,” he said.

The governor expects fuel distribution to gas stations to gradually return to normal within the next one to two days. He hopes the improvement will ease vehicle queues and resolve refueling difficulties reported in several parts of Bali.

“Things should be back to normal within a day or two,” Koster said.

Asked whether Bali could face a fuel crisis, Koster reiterated that he did not expect such a situation to occur.

“No, there will be no fuel crisis. I can assure you that Bali will not face one going forward,” he said.

Koster also invited the public to check fuel stocks directly at the Manggis and Pesanggaran depots, reiterating his assurance that supplies for Bali remain secure.

“Yes, supplies are guaranteed to be safe. People can check the depots in Manggis and Pesanggaran,” he said.

The provincial government hopes that smoother deliveries from the depots to gas stations will restore normal refueling services and reduce vehicle queues. In the meantime, residents are being urged to remain calm and purchase fuel according to their needs.
