Nearly Two-Hour Dispute: Daging's Lawyers Claim Bali Police Special Crimes Unit Hindered Report

DENPASAR, BALINEWS – Lawyers representing former Bali Regional Office of the National Land Agency (BPN) chief I Made Daging claim they faced difficulties when attempting to file a police report over the alleged use of forged documents, which they accuse I Made Tarip and other parties of using.

The dispute reportedly lasted nearly two hours on Monday, October 5, 2026, as Daging's legal team questioned investigators from the Bali Police Special Crimes Directorate (Ditreskrimsus) over their client's ability to file the report.

Daging's lawyer, I Made Ariel Suardana, said the legal team had submitted a written request on September 21, 2026, seeking permission for Daging to file the report personally. However, they said they had yet to receive a clear resolution by the time of the meeting.

“This is a constitutional right. Citizens have the right to directly report criminal acts that they have experienced,” Ariel said.

According to Ariel, investigators told the legal team that the restriction was based on an instruction from the Director of the Bali Police Special Crimes Directorate (Dirreskrimsus). Daging, who is currently in detention, was allegedly only allowed to file the report through his lawyers.

Ariel argued that such a restriction could conflict with the legal rights of a person who is being detained. He also said the legal team had previously encountered similar difficulties when attempting to submit a report through another channel within the Bali Police.

“The investigator said they were only carrying out their superior's instructions. We asked whether there was any guarantee that the report would not be rejected again if it was filed directly by the lawyers. There was no guarantee,” Ariel said.

Ariel warned that the legal team could take further legal action if Daging's alleged right to file a report continued to be obstructed.

“We will report the Director of the Bali Police Special Crimes Directorate for alleged violations of the law, involving what we consider constitutional rights and continued criminalization,” he said.

Meanwhile, another member of Daging's legal team, Gede Pasek Suardika, said the lawyers would make another attempt to file the report against I Made Tarip through the Bali Police General Crimes Directorate (Ditreskrimum).

Pasek said he saw a discrepancy in the treatment of complainants between investigators receiving reports and investigators handling Daging's case.

“On the one hand, we are told that the victim must file the report personally. But when the victim wants to file the report, he is prevented from doing so. That is the problem,” Pasek said.

Pasek warned that the legal team could take further action if the report was rejected again.

“If we are not accepted here, then the investigators who obstructed the process could be considered to have committed obstruction of justice. It would not only be a matter for Propam; there could also be criminal implications,” he said.

Pasek said the legal team would first determine whether the report against Tarip could be formally accepted. After that, they would consider further legal measures against anyone they believe had obstructed the reporting process.

The allegations were made by Daging's legal team. As of publication, there had been no official response from the Bali Police Special Crimes Directorate or Bali Police leadership regarding the lawyers' claim that Daging had been prevented from personally filing the report.
