BALINEWS.ID – Demonstrating an unwavering commitment to sustainable hospitality, Conrad Bali has reinforced its dedication to responsible travel by aligning with Hilton’s Travel with Purpose 2030 goals. On March 22, 2025, from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM, the resort participated in Earth Hour, joining millions worldwide in a symbolic effort to curb energy consumption and foster environmental consciousness.
This initiative marks yet another milestone for the resort, which was recently recognized as Sustainable Hotel of the Year – Indonesia 2024 by Travel Daily Media. This accolade underscores Conrad Bali’s holistic approach to integrating sustainability into its operations, guest experiences, and community engagement efforts.
“We are deeply honored by this recognition and recognize that true sustainability is a continuous journey,” remarked Kevin Girard, General Manager of Conrad Bali. “Our commitment is centered on making conscientious choices in hospitality, advancing sustainable initiatives such as resource conservation and ecosystem protection, and providing guests with enriching experiences that highlight the importance of environmental stewardship.”
At Conrad Bali, sustainability is woven into the fabric of its daily operations. The resort actively encourages guests to partake in eco-conscious experiences that cultivate a deeper appreciation for the environment.
One such initiative is the Kebun Kita Rooftop Herb Garden, launched on Earth Day last year. This verdant space not only enhances the resort’s garden-to-table dining concept but also serves as an educational platform through cooking classes and interactive children’s activities, imparting knowledge about sustainable food cultivation.
“Kebun Kita is more than a scenic addition to our property; it’s an experiential touchpoint that fosters meaningful interactions with nature,” stated Yogi Puspadi, Quality Manager at Conrad Bali. “Our guests gain firsthand insights into sustainable gardening and environmentally responsible living.”
Further amplifying its sustainability efforts, the resort introduced a unique Welcome Amenity Program, inviting guests to plant mangrove trees in lieu of receiving traditional fruit platters. Since its inception in 2024, the initiative has facilitated the planting of 888 mangrove trees, reinforcing coastal conservation efforts across Bali.
Fostering a Cleaner, Greener Bali
Conrad Bali’s environmental advocacy extends beyond its property lines through strategic partnerships with conservation-focused organizations. Collaborating with Sungai Watch, the resort conducts monthly river cleanups, helping to preserve Bali’s fragile waterways and mangrove ecosystems.
Additionally, Conrad Bali has forged an impactful alliance with Scholars of Sustenance (SOS) Indonesia, redistributing surplus food from its breakfast buffets and events. In 2024 alone, the initiative provided over 33,000 meals to underprivileged communities.
To further minimize waste, the resort’s Soap Recycling Initiative—executed in collaboration with ROLE Foundation—has repurposed 237 kilograms of used soap, producing 3,949 new bars for disadvantaged communities. Meanwhile, its partnership with CHOP Value Indonesia repurposes used chopsticks and satay skewers into functional furniture and home decor, exemplifying a commitment to a circular economy.
Sustainable Sourcing and Cutting-Edge Waste Management
Responsible sourcing remains a cornerstone of Conrad Bali’s sustainability framework. The resort ensures that its culinary ingredients meet rigorous environmental standards, including 100% MSC-certified smoked salmon, regeneratively grown rice from Astungkara Way, and cage-free eggs.
Harnessing artificial intelligence, the resort has integrated Winnow AI, a state-of-the-art food waste tracking system, resulting in a 50% reduction in kitchen waste and a 3-8% decrease in procurement costs. To date, this innovation has prevented over 72 tons of food waste from entering landfills.
In water conservation, Conrad Bali repurposes wastewater for irrigation and has installed foot-pedal taps in its kitchens, collectively saving 1,420m³ of water. These proactive initiatives illustrate the resort’s unwavering commitment to balancing luxury hospitality with responsible environmental practices, ensuring that every guest experience aligns with sustainable principles.
