NUSA DUA, BALINEWS – Bali Police have deployed 12 personnel from the Escape Unit of the Mobile Brigade Corps (Brimob) to help protect delegates attending the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN87) Annual General Meeting (AGM) 2026 at the Bali International Convention Centre (BICC), Nusa Dua, from October 17 to 22, 2026.
The personnel are part of Task Force V (Enforcement) under Operation Gapura Agung V-2026. The unit is led by Deputy Commander of the Bali Police Brimob Gegana Detachment, Commissioner Ketut Sumarayasa.
Bali Police Public Relations Chief Senior Commissioner Ariasandy said the Escape Unit was assigned to anticipate potential threats against VIPs, VVIPs, and delegates attending the international event.
The potential threats include attacks, bombings, hostage-taking, and armed violence.
“The Escape Unit’s primary function is to evacuate important officials, state guests, and delegates from threatened locations to safe areas in the event of an emergency. Protecting lives remains the top priority in every response,” Ariasandy said.
The personnel are equipped with black tactical uniforms, bulletproof vests, protective helmets, and firearms in accordance with operational requirements. They are also supported by a specialized Todak tactical vehicle to facilitate rapid movement during emergencies.
Ariasandy explained that if a serious threat arises, the personnel will act in accordance with established operational procedures to protect and evacuate individuals under their security responsibility.
The evacuation process includes moving VIPs, VVIPs, or delegates through designated evacuation routes and transporting them in specialized vehicles to a secure location. Depending on the circumstances, the destination may include the nearest police station.
To ensure operational readiness, personnel are also checking and mapping evacuation routes so that rescue operations can be carried out swiftly and in a coordinated manner.
The Escape Unit will coordinate with other security teams to ensure that all responses are adjusted to developments on the ground.
The deployment is part of Bali Police’s broader security measures for ICANN87 AGM 2026. Through Operation Gapura Agung V-2026, the police are strengthening personnel readiness and coordination among units to maintain security throughout the international event.
Bali Police said the measures are intended to ensure that the event proceeds safely and orderly, allowing delegates to participate in the scheduled activities with confidence in the security arrangements.
