BULELENG, BALINEWS — A Chinese tourist has reported an alleged theft of jewelry worth approximately US$10,000 after discovering that a jewelry box kept inside her suitcase had gone missing during a trip in Bali. The report was received by Buleleng Police on October 6, 2026.
According to the Police Report Receipt (STTLP), the case was registered under report number LP/B/329/X/2026/SPKT/POLRES BULELENG. The complainant, identified by the initials XL, is a Chinese national who reported a suspected theft under Article 476 of Law No. 1 of 2023 on the Indonesian Criminal Code.
According to the account provided to police, the incident began on the morning of Monday, October 5, 2026. The complainant, her husband, and seven other Chinese tourists traveled to Sanur Port before heading to Nusa Penida Island. They used a minibus provided by a local travel agency.
Before departing, the complainant placed several pieces of jewelry inside a blue jewelry box, which she then stored in a white suitcase. The items reportedly included rings, earrings, pearl earrings, and an emerald bracelet.
The suitcase was not taken to Nusa Penida but was left inside the vehicle used by the tour group. According to the complainant, the driver was responsible for the vehicle while the group was sightseeing.
After completing their excursion, the group returned to Bali and continued to a hotel in the Lovina area of Buleleng Regency. At around 10 p.m. local time, the complainant and her husband attempted to open the suitcase but discovered that its combination lock had been changed, preventing them from opening it with the original code.
After they managed to open the suitcase, they discovered that the jewelry box previously stored inside was missing.
The complainant subsequently expressed suspicion toward the travel driver because the suitcase had been left inside the vehicle during the excursion. However, the allegation has yet to be substantiated and requires further investigation by the police.
The complainant said she had suffered financial losses as a result of the incident. In a separate statement, she estimated the value of the missing jewelry at approximately US$10,000.
She also stated that she had reported the matter to the authorities and notified China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Consulate General of China in Denpasar. She has called for the case to be followed up and given appropriate attention by the relevant authorities.
Among the investigative measures she has requested are the collection and examination of closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from the hotel and Sanur Port, vehicle camera recordings, the minibus's GPS data, and statements from the driver, tour guide, and travel agency representative.
As of the time of publication, no official statement had been obtained from police regarding the progress of the investigation or whether any suspect had been named. The driver and the travel agency concerned had also not provided a response available for publication.
The case remains an allegation of theft. Any determination of responsibility rests with law enforcement authorities and must be based on the results of the investigation and legally admissible evidence.
