JAKARTA,BALINEWS – Reports that several senior Indonesian National Police (Polri) officers have been taken into custody at the Mobile Brigade Corps (Brimob) Headquarters in Kelapa Dua, Depok, have sparked widespread public attention amid allegations of coordinated surveillance targeting senior government officials.

According to information circulating in Indonesian media, the officers were reportedly secured by the National Police's Internal Affairs and Professional Security Division (Propam) for questioning over a sensitive internal investigation.

Among those reportedly involved is a four-star police general identified only by the initial L, who is said to have been questioned separately and subsequently released. However, the National Police Headquarters has yet to officially confirm the identities, number, or legal status of the officers allegedly taken into custody.

Allegations of Surveillance Targeting Top Government Officials

The reports have also raised allegations of unauthorized surveillance targeting senior Indonesian government officials, including President Prabowo Subianto and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.

Sources cited by Indonesian media outlets claim that the alleged surveillance operation was conducted from a residence in the Widya Chandra diplomatic and government residential complex in Jakarta.

The reports further allege that several active-duty police officers, including senior officers holding the rank of Inspector General and Commissioner, may have been involved in coordinating the operation.

Separately, speculation has circulated on social media suggesting that surveillance equipment allegedly used in the operation may have originated from Israel.

However, these claims have not been independently verified. No official evidence has been publicly presented to establish the alleged surveillance activities, the involvement of specific officers, or the origin of the equipment reportedly used.

Police Headquarters Says Information Is Being Checked

National Police Public Relations Division Chief Inspector General Johnny Eddizon Isir has acknowledged questions surrounding the reports but has not confirmed or denied the alleged detention of senior police officers.

Speaking to journalists at the Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) building in Jakarta on Tuesday, November 3, Isir indicated that the police would provide further clarification at an appropriate time.

"I understand that you are all discussing something. There will be a time for that. Perhaps not too long from now," Isir told reporters.

In a separate statement concerning reports of alleged police involvement in mobilizing demonstrators in Yogyakarta, Isir said the institution would examine the information through internal evaluation procedures.

He explained that police activities involving public demonstrations and security operations are subject to internal assessment.

The police have pledged to provide a comprehensive explanation once the verification and clarification processes have been completed.

Public Awaits Official Explanation

The reports have raised questions about internal accountability within the Indonesian National Police, particularly concerning allegations involving senior officers and matters potentially related to national security.

The public is now awaiting an official explanation from National Police Headquarters regarding whether the reported internal operation actually took place, which officers were questioned, and the specific issues being investigated.

For now, the allegations must be treated with caution.

The principle of the presumption of innocence remains essential. Any individual named in connection with the reports must be considered innocent unless their responsibility is established through lawful proceedings and a final, legally binding court judgment.

As of the publication of this report, the National Police have not issued a comprehensive official statement confirming the reported detention of senior officers or establishing the alleged surveillance activities.

Further clarification from the authorities is expected to determine the facts behind the reports.
