Ngurah Rai Immigration Deports Nine Foreigners, Two Accused of Posing as Investors

BADUNG, BALINEWS – Ngurah Rai Immigration Office deported nine foreign nationals between September 29 and October 4, 2026, including two who allegedly misused investor residence permits without actually carrying out investment activities in Bali.

The nine foreigners comprised two US nationals, two French nationals, and one each from Germany, Australia, Malaysia, Latvia and Thailand. All were deported through I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport.

The deportations followed routine immigration patrols in Badung Regency, during which officers checked whether foreigners' actual activities matched the purposes of their residence permits.

Two of those deported were identified as AS, a German national, and TL, a French national. Both held Limited Stay Permits for Investors (ITAS Investor).

According to Ngurah Rai Immigration, AS was not operating a business or making the required capital investment, while TL was found working as a host at a private villa.

Another foreign national, AC from Latvia, held a Visit Stay Permit but was allegedly found to have established a foreign investment company (PT PMA) and managed assets without holding an appropriate residence permit for those activities.

“An Investor ITAS is granted so that genuine investors can invest and conduct business in Indonesia. If the permit is merely used as a cover to stay in Bali without actually investing, that constitutes abuse and we will take firm action,” Ngurah Rai Immigration Office head Muhamad Novyandri said.

He said such violations were more easily identified through direct field inspections and routine patrols.

“Cases like this become clear when officers go directly into the field through routine patrols,” Novyandri said.

Six Foreigners Cited for Misusing Residence Permits

Of the nine foreigners deported, six were removed for allegedly violating their residence permits under Article 75(1) of Law No. 6 of 2011 on Immigration.

In addition to AS, TL and AC, Australian national TBJ was deported after being found working as an osteopath at a clinic in Canggu despite holding a Visit Stay Permit.

US national EWM was found to be in possession of two passports and was also deported.

Meanwhile, Malaysian national SG was deported after completing a rehabilitation program at a correctional facility for drug-related offenses.

Three Foreigners Overstayed, One by Nearly a Year

The remaining three foreigners were deported for overstaying their permitted periods of stay.

Thai national ACH had overstayed by 45 days, while US national AMK had overstayed by 61 days.

French national SBM had the longest overstay, exceeding the permitted period by 357 days.

Novyandri said Ngurah Rai Immigration would continue conducting routine immigration patrols to monitor the presence and activities of foreign nationals in its jurisdiction.

“We will continue to conduct routine immigration patrols to ensure that the presence and activities of foreigners within the Ngurah Rai Immigration jurisdiction are consistent with the residence permits they hold,” he said.

He added that any violations would be dealt with in accordance with applicable regulations.

The measures, Novyandri said, were also in line with the direction of Immigration Director General Hendarsam Marantoko, who has emphasized quality public service, stronger immigration supervision and fair law enforcement.

“Every violation will be dealt with in accordance with the applicable regulations. This is in line with the direction of the Director General of Immigration that Immigration is here to serve the public through quality services, optimal supervision and fair law enforcement,” Novyandri said.
