BADUNG, BALINEWS.ID – The Apurva Kempinski Bali proudly hosted the annual Path to Sustainable Growth summit, a landmark event uniting stakeholders under the theme “Shaping the Future of Responsible, Inclusive, and Profitable Tourism.” Featuring distinguished panelists from diverse sectors, the summit convened global sustainability experts, business leaders, policymakers, and community advocates to collaboratively address today’s pressing environmental, social, and economic challenges.

The summit opened with a keynote address from Drs. Amnu Fuadiy, MA, Assistant Deputy Minister for Sustainable Tourism at Indonesia’s Ministry of Tourism. He emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to sustainable tourism through five priority initiatives: the clean tourism movement, digital transformation to enhance marketing and service quality, leveraging unique cultural and natural assets for high-value tourism, promoting heritage-rich events, and expanding tourist villages to stimulate local economies.

The first panel discussion, Blueprint for Building Sustainable Destinations, featured notable voices such as Alistair Speirs, who introduced the master plan and addressed sustainability obstacles. Wenda Ramadya Nabiel highlighted the importance of environmental responsibility, social inclusivity, and economic impact. Jelle Therry showcased regenerative ecosystem designs focusing on water resilience, biodiversity, and sustainable materials.

Ida Bagus Agung Gunarthawa explored community-based tourism development, while Amanda Marcella offered insights into zero-waste strategies. John Higson of Eco Solutions Lombok shared how agroforestry and sustainable practices can transform challenges into opportunities.

Another panel, The Importance of Sustainable Hospitality and Biodiversity, featured Helianti Hilman, who underscored Indonesia’s rich food biodiversity and cultural traditions. Nicolas Perez stressed the importance of water sustainability, and Dr. Stefan Phang introduced impactful programs such as Linen for Life and Soap for Life. Tobias Wilson addressed the environmental effects of organic waste, while Yuki Susanto of PT Suparma Tbk presented corporate strategies in sustainable sourcing, efficient production, and waste management.

Maurice Adema discussed renewable energy innovations, and Gayan Wejesiriwardana emphasized the necessity of certification, stating, “Without measurement, sustainability is just intention.”

Desak Intan concluded the session by outlining The Apurva Kempinski Bali’s long-term vision for cultural preservation, environmental stewardship, community empowerment, and sustainable business.

The summit’s success was echoed by enthusiastic feedback. “This summit was a game-changer for me,” said Katarina, a hotelier. “I left with a renewed sense of purpose and a network of like-minded individuals committed to making a difference.”

Desy, a travel agent, shared a similar sentiment. “The summit’s practical solutions and collaborative spirit were inspiring. I’m excited to apply what I learned,” she said.

As part of its broader commitment, The Apurva Kempinski Bali conducted a full carbon footprint assessment of the summit, covering venue, accommodation, catering, and transportation—totaling 6,537.75 kgCO₂e. Offsetting this would require 725 mangrove trees or 98 jackfruit trees absorbing carbon over three years. The hotel is now actively working to offset these emissions, reinforcing its pledge to achieve carbon neutrality, the first hotel in Indonesia to pursue this milestone.
