BALINEWSID.COM, BADUNG — Increased volcanic activity at Mount Anak Krakatau has disrupted flight operations at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali, with 42 flights canceled or rescheduled as of Sunday (Sept. 6) at 3:30 p.m. Central Indonesia Time (WITA).
Gede Eka Sandi Asmadi, Head of Communication and Legal Division at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, said the flight disruptions followed the increase in volcanic activity at Mount Anak Krakatau.
Despite the disruptions, airport operations and passenger services at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport continue to operate normally and optimally, he said.
According to the latest flight data, seven flights from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang (CGK) to I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport (DPS) were canceled.
On the departure side, the largest impact was recorded on the Bali-Jakarta route. Thirty flights from Bali to Soekarno-Hatta Airport were canceled, while another flight was delayed.
In addition, two flights from Bali to Halim Perdanakusuma Airport in Jakarta (HLP) and two flights from Bali to Husein Sastranegara Airport in Bandung (BDO) were also canceled.
In total, 42 flights were affected, comprising canceled flights and one delayed flight.
PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia (InJourney Airports), which manages I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, is coordinating with relevant agencies, particularly airlines, to provide updated flight schedules and assist passengers affected by the disruptions who are already at the airport terminal.
The airport operator is also coordinating with AirNav Indonesia to monitor airspace affected by the volcanic activity of Mount Anak Krakatau.
As part of its service recovery measures, the airport has prepared complimentary drinks and snacks for passengers from affected flights who are already at the terminal.
Passengers are advised to regularly check with their respective airlines regarding flight status and schedule changes before leaving for the airport.
