Bali Police Deploy 215 Personnel to Secure ICANN87 Meeting in Nusa Dua

JIMBARAN, BALINEWS — Bali Regional Police have deployed 215 joint personnel under Operation Gapura Agung V-2026 to secure the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN87) Annual General Meeting 2026 at the Bali International Convention Centre (BICC) in Nusa Dua, Bali, from October 17 to 22, 2026.

Security measures will focus on preventive efforts, including guarding strategic locations, monitoring delegates’ arrival routes, conducting patrols, and inspecting people and belongings in accordance with established procedures. The operation will also implement a three-layer security system covering Ring 1, Ring 2, and Ring 3.

Preparations were marked by a security personnel assembly at the rear courtyard of Bali Police Headquarters on Friday, October 16, 2026. The assembly was led by Bali Police Operations Bureau Chief Senior Commissioner Soelistijono, S.I.K., M.H., and involved personnel from Bali Regional Police, Denpasar City Police, and I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport Police.

In his briefing, Soelistijono emphasized that securing the international event was part of the police force’s responsibility to maintain public safety and provide professional services throughout the conference.

“All personnel must understand their respective duties and responsibilities and carry out security operations professionally, humanely, and with a strong sense of responsibility,” he said.

ICANN87 is expected to attract between 2,000 and 2,500 delegates from approximately 180 countries. As the main activities will take place at hotels and conference venues, security efforts will concentrate on strategic locations, the event venue, and routes used by delegates traveling from I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport to the ITDC area in Nusa Dua.

Soelistijono specifically instructed personnel to anticipate potential traffic disruptions along these routes, including congestion near busy fuel stations.

“Security arrangements for delegates traveling from Ngurah Rai Airport to the event venue in the ITDC area of Nusa Dua must be properly implemented. Personnel must also anticipate potential traffic congestion around fuel stations crowded with members of the public refueling their vehicles,” he said.

To support operations in the field, all deployed personnel are required to wear body-worn cameras. Personnel readiness, the strategic deployment of officers, and coordination among police units are also key priorities throughout the operation.

Bali Police further emphasized that all officers must follow established procedures, remain vigilant, and prioritize public service. Security measures are intended not only to ensure the smooth running of the international event but also to maintain public order and minimize disruption to local communities and traffic around the venue.

The ICANN87 Annual General Meeting is an annual public meeting that brings together global stakeholders to discuss policies, coordination, and developments in internet governance. Organized by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), the meeting will be held in a hybrid format, combining in-person and virtual participation.

Through Operation Gapura Agung V-2026, Bali Police have reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the international event through coordinated security measures and a preventive approach. The deployment is expected to provide a safe environment for international delegates while maintaining public order and ensuring the comfort of local residents throughout the conference.
