JAKARTA, BALINEW – Insp. Gen. Herry Heryawan has officially assumed his new position as Head of the Indonesian National Police’s Security Maintenance Agency (Kabaharkam Polri) after being inaugurated during a ceremony for the appointment and handover of duties involving senior National Police officials and provincial police chiefs at National Police Headquarters in Jakarta on Saturday evening (Oct. 3, 2026).
The new appointment also marks Herry’s promotion to the rank of Commissioner General of Police, a three-star rank. He previously served as Chief of the Riau Regional Police.
Following his inauguration, Herry described his new position as a responsibility and a mandate that must be carried out with integrity and dedication.
He emphasized that changes in position do not alter the fundamental mission of police officers: serving the public, maintaining security, and contributing to the nation.
“Whatever the position and wherever we are assigned, the orientation remains the same: maintaining security, being present among the community, and carrying out our duties with integrity and full responsibility,” Herry said.
Herry said rotations and leadership changes are part of the National Police’s organizational regeneration process and are necessary to ensure continuity in public service and law enforcement.
He views his new assignment as a continuation of his service in various positions, including his tenure as chief of the Riau Regional Police.
“Every mandate comes with different challenges and responsibilities. However, the principle remains the same: how the presence of the National Police can provide a sense of security and deliver tangible benefits to the community,” he said.
Herry also expressed his appreciation to the Riau Regional Police personnel, local government, Indonesian Military (TNI), community leaders, academics, media organizations, and other elements of society who supported his service in Riau.
He expressed hope that the cooperation and collaborative efforts developed in Riau would continue and become even stronger.
“Please pray that every step of my service ahead will be given ease and blessings. A position is a mandate, and ultimately, what matters most is how that mandate is carried out as well as possible for the people, the nation, and the state,” Herry said.
