JAKARTA, BALINEWS — General of Police Suyudi Ario Seto has officially taken over as Chief of the Indonesian National Police, replacing General of Police Listyo Sigit Prabowo.
Suyudi received approval from the House of Representatives (DPR RI) during its plenary session in Jakarta on Thursday (Oct. 1, 2026). He was subsequently scheduled to be inaugurated by President Prabowo Subianto at the State Palace in Jakarta.
Born in Pandeglang, Banten, Suyudi is a graduate of the 1994 class of the Armed Forces Academy (Akabri), now known as the Police Academy (Akpol). He was in the same graduating class as Jakarta Metropolitan Police Chief Commissioner General Asep Edi Suheri.
Suyudi has spent much of his career in criminal investigation. Before being appointed National Police chief, he served as Head of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) from Aug. 25, 2025, replacing Commissioner General Martinus Hukom.
Previously, Suyudi served as Chief of the Banten Regional Police from June 26, 2024, to Aug. 5, 2025. He also served as Deputy Chief of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police from March 27, 2023, to June 26, 2024.
Career Rooted in Criminal Investigation
Suyudi began his police career shortly after graduating from the Police Academy. In 1995, he served as an officer at the Mobile Brigade Corps Headquarters before taking another assignment in 1996.
A significant part of his career was spent within the jurisdiction of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police. He served as Chief of the Pasar Minggu Sector Police in 2004, Chief of the Tanah Abang Metro Sector Police in 2012 and Chief of the Penjaringan Metro Sector Police in 2013.
Suyudi subsequently served as Chief of the Majalengka District Police from 2014 to 2015, followed by assignments as Chief of the Bogor Regency Police from 2015 to 2016 and Chief of the Bogor City Police from 2016 to 2017.
In 2017, he was assigned to the Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) of the National Police. Among his positions there were Deputy Director of Special Economic Crimes and Deputy Director of Cybercrime.
In 2019, Suyudi returned to the Jakarta Metropolitan Police and was appointed Director of General Criminal Investigation.
Academic Background
Suyudi completed his education at the Police Science College (PTIK) in 2003. He holds a bachelor's degree in police science, a law degree and a master's degree in science.
On Jan. 31, 2026, he was awarded an honorary doctorate in law by Tarumanagara University.
Experience Leading the National Narcotics Agency
Suyudi's profile gained further public attention during his tenure as head of the National Narcotics Agency.
In December 2025, the agency under his leadership announced the uncovering of a major international drug trafficking case involving two tons of methamphetamine.
Authorities said the shipment was controlled by Dewi Astutik, also known as PA. The narcotics were estimated to have a street value of approximately Rp5 trillion.
Suyudi's experience in criminal investigation and narcotics enforcement became part of his professional background before he was selected to lead the National Police.
His appointment followed a fit-and-proper test before Commission III of the DPR RI. The commission approved his candidacy by consensus before the decision was submitted to the plenary session.
With his appointment, Suyudi succeeds Listyo Sigit Prabowo as head of the Indonesian National Police.
