Grand Lisboa Palace Art Gallery Officially Opens with “The Lisboa, Stories of Macau” Exhibition

BALINEWS.ID –  SJM Resorts, S.A. has proudly inaugurated the Grand Lisboa Palace Art Gallery at its flagship Grand Lisboa Palace Resort Macau. This new cultural landmark is designed to preserve Macau’s unique history and promote vibrant artistic expression, strengthening the city’s role as a dynamic cultural hub.

The grand opening ceremony was attended by a distinguished group of guests, including Mr. Ho Hau Wah, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, Ms. Bai Bing, Deputy Director of the Department of Publicity and Culture of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in Macau, and other senior officials from Macau’s government and cultural sectors. SJM’s leadership was represented by Managing Director Ms. Daisy Ho, alongside key figures from the local tourism and arts communities.

The gallery launches its debut exhibition, “The Lisboa, Stories of Macau,” which offers visitors a comprehensive journey through Macau’s over 500 years of history. The exhibition highlights how Macau’s culture has evolved through centuries of East-West exchange, starting from the Ming and Qing dynasties to the present day. Visitors can immerse themselves in Macau’s past through a wide variety of media including scale models, virtual reality projections, rare artefacts, and interactive displays. These elements bring to life the stories of entrepreneurs, artists, athletes, and everyday citizens who have contributed to Macau’s unique identity.

“The Lisboa, Stories of Macau” is organized into eight thematic zones that focus on key landmarks and cultural traditions. These include the spiritual heritage at the Kun Iam Temple, the golden era of the Hotel Lisboa, the artistic fusion represented by the Dom Pedro V Theatre, the community warmth of Tap Seac, the historical significance of the Ruins of St. Paul’s, the international cultural exchange symbolized by Casa Garden, centuries of devotion at the A-Ma Temple, and the vibrant energy of the San Ma Lo district. An interactive floor map also enables visitors to explore over 30 notable Macau landmarks and discover more than 50 lesser-known stories that enrich the city’s cultural tapestry.

Complementing the main exhibition is “The Lisboa Collection,” a special ongoing display featuring exquisite pieces of Qing Dynasty court art from the collections of SJM and Sociedade de Turismo e Diversões de Macau, S.A. Highlighted treasures include an imperial lacquered throne, a finely glazed eggshell porcelain bowl, and an intricately carved jade censer. These masterpieces showcase the sophistication of ancient Chinese craftsmanship and underscore the cultural depth of Macau’s heritage.

In addition to exhibitions, the Grand Lisboa Palace Art Gallery features a souvenir shop offering an exclusive range of Macau-themed design products created in collaboration with local artists and independent creative brands. The shop also houses a curated selection of contemporary art books from the globally renowned publisher TASCHEN, spanning diverse subjects such as visual art, design, fashion, architecture, pop culture, and lifestyle.

The gallery further serves as a vibrant cultural space, welcoming artists and organizations from around the world to present exhibitions and artistic programs.
