BADUNG, BALINEWS.ID – Rooted in the timeless Balinese philosophy of balance, creation, preservation, and transformation, Ayodya Resort Bali officially launched its coral conservation partnership with Living Sea on Friday, February 13. The initiative marks a significant milestone in the resort’s ongoing sustainability journey.
Drawing inspiration from the philosophical concept that nature is created, can be damaged by human hands, and must therefore be restored through conscious effort, the initiative reflects a deeper commitment beyond hospitality. The launch event symbolized a shared responsibility to protect what has been given by nature, particularly Bali’s fragile coral reef ecosystems.
General Manager of Ayodya Resort Bali, Vineet Mahajan, explained that the philosophy serves as the foundation of the resort’s environmental commitment.
“In Balinese philosophy, we speak about balance the creator, the preserver, and the force of change. Nature, including coral reefs, was created as a living system. Yet human activity has contributed to its destruction. It is now our responsibility to restore and preserve it,” Mahajan said during the launch.
He emphasized that corals are not merely underwater structures, but living ecosystems that sustain marine biodiversity and coastal communities.
“Corals are not just pieces of bone beneath the sea. They are entire ecosystems. When coral reefs are destroyed, we lose marine life, biodiversity, and even livelihoods that depend on them. As a beachfront resort, we believe we must actively protect the ocean that defines Bali’s natural beauty,” he added.
The conservation program, in collaboration with Living Sea, includes coral transplantation, marine education initiatives for guests and staff, and environmental awareness campaigns aimed at reducing pollution and protecting biodiversity. The initiative itself has been running since 2019, consistently working on reef rehabilitation projects in Padang Bai, one of Bali’s renowned dive destinations.
Leon Boey, Founder of Livingseas Asia and Advisor for the Livingseas Foundation, highlighted the broader environmental mission behind the project.
“Coral reefs play an important role in marine life, and the importance of coral ecosystems is vital to all life. Our goal is to make your world-class Bali diving experience not only safe but also more sustainable,” Boey said.
Indonesia is globally recognized for its world-class dive sites, many of which are located near Padang Bai. Through the development of a 5-hectare coral reef restoration area in Bali, Living Sea is actively restoring lost marine habitats while supporting local communities that rely on healthy reefs for tourism and livelihoods.
“By building a 5-hectare coral reef in Padang Bai, we are not only giving back to the ocean and restoring marine biodiversity, but also contributing to the local communities. With the involvement of the local population, we are rebuilding a complete marine ecosystem that once consisted only of coral rubble and resembled a desert,” Boey explained.
