Wildfires Threaten Palindra Toll Road: HKA Deploys 25 Personnel and a 5,000-Liter Water Tank

PALEMBANG, BALINEWS — PT Hakaaston (HKA) has deployed 25 operational personnel and strengthened coordination with relevant agencies to mitigate the impact of forest and land fires near the Palembang–Indralaya (Palindra) Toll Road in South Sumatra. The measures aim to protect road users amid fires that have been monitored in the surrounding area from July through October 2026.

HKA has maintained continuous readiness, particularly at locations close to affected areas. Its personnel monitor fire conditions, smoke direction, and visibility to anticipate changes that could compromise traffic safety and disrupt the smooth flow of vehicles.

As the toll road's operations service provider, HKA has also prepared traffic safety measures ahead of fire-affected sections. Traffic management can be implemented if conditions on the ground change and pose potential risks to road users.

The 25 personnel on standby comprise patrol, rescue, towing, and medical teams. They are supported by Highway Patrol (PJR) officers and personnel assigned under operational control arrangements from relevant agencies.

The vehicles and equipment on standby include patrol cars, rescue vehicles, tow trucks equipped with water tanks, a water tanker with a capacity of 5,000 liters, and an ambulance.

Firefighting operations are being conducted in coordination with the Ogan Ilir Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Manggala Agni forest fire control teams, and the Ogan Ilir Police, which has deployed an armored water cannon (AWC) vehicle.

The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), together with the regional disaster management agency, has also established an emergency response post at the Pemulutan Toll Gate.

If conditions require additional intervention, helicopter-based water bombing operations are also being prepared as a supplementary firefighting measure.

HKA said it had previously coordinated with relevant agencies on several occasions to respond to forest and land fires near the toll roads under its management. These established coordination arrangements are intended to accelerate responses when similar incidents occur.

HKA Operations Director Aminudin Azis said the rapid exchange of information and coordination among agencies were essential to managing the impact of fires on toll road operations.

“Our priority is to ensure that road users receive up-to-date information about conditions and appropriate traffic management. Our personnel regularly monitor conditions along the toll road and coordinate with disaster management agencies and local authorities so that any changes on the ground can be addressed quickly,” Aminudin said.

He urged motorists to adjust their speed and switch on their vehicle headlights when driving through smoke-affected areas. Road users were also advised to report any hazardous conditions encountered along the toll road.

“We also urge road users to adjust their speed and turn on their headlights when passing through smoky areas, and to contact our call center immediately if they encounter any conditions that could endanger safety on the toll road,” he added.

HKA said it would continue maintaining personnel readiness and strengthening coordination with relevant agencies to support toll road operations and protect motorists while the fires persist.

Road users can obtain traffic updates or report incidents through HKA's call center at 150-700 or via WhatsApp at 08112-77000.
