DENPASAR, BALINEWS.ID – More than 150 women gathered at the Rip Curl School of Surf in Sanur on May 10, 2026, as the 23rd edition of Rip Curl Girls Go Surfing Day recorded its largest participation since the event was first launched.
The annual event brought together female surfers of all skill levels, ranging from beginners trying surfing for the first time to experienced riders looking to sharpen their techniques. Participants received direct coaching from professional surf instructors alongside female athletes from Rip Curl.
Among the athletes attending was Taina Izquierdo, who reflected on the growth of the program over the years.
“I attended my first Girls Go Surfing Day when I was 11 years old, and seeing how much it has grown today is truly inspiring,” she said.
“Watching more than 150 girls encourage each other both in and out of the water created an incredible atmosphere filled with confidence and positive energy,” she added.
Throughout the day, participants took part in surf coaching sessions focused on ocean safety, paddling techniques, wave positioning, and confidence-building in the water. Organizers said the program was designed not only to introduce women to surfing, but also to encourage long-term participation in ocean sports and coastal communities.
The event also featured a wide range of beachside activities, including yoga sessions, ice baths, beach volleyball, music performances, and interactive partner booths, creating a festival-like atmosphere along the shoreline of Sanur.
Environmental sustainability remained one of the main highlights of the event. The Rip Curl School of Surf team organized a coral gardening activity where participants planted coral spiders to support reef restoration efforts near the surf school area.
Food and beverage partners such as BGS Coffee, Indo Amazon, and Yummy Dairy provided refreshments throughout the day, while DJ Lissa Cahaya entertained attendees during the afternoon celebration. As the evening continued, the beach gathering transformed into a lively sunset party attended by surfers, guests, and local communities.
The success of this year’s Girls Go Surfing Day reflects the growing popularity of women’s surfing in Indonesia and reinforces Rip Curl’s commitment to creating more inclusive opportunities for women in surf culture.
Several local partners supported the 2026 edition, including Mamaka Hotels & Resorts, Solcreme, Megatix, Island Brewing, Sensatia, Hydroflask, Coca-Cola, and other Bali-based brands and communities.
