BALINEWS.ID – A growing awareness of health, sustainability, and mindful living is reshaping consumer preferences, extending beyond personal care products to the way people maintain their homes. Responding to this shift, Bali-based wellness company Utama Spice and bathroom design specialist Ahti Interiors have launched a new line of plant-based bathroom care products aimed at combining effective cleaning with environmentally responsible ingredients.
The collaboration brings together two brands known for their distinct expertise in wellness and design. For over three decades, Utama Spice has built its reputation through natural skincare, essential oils, and products inspired by Indonesia’s traditional botanical heritage.
Meanwhile, Ahti Interiors has become recognized for supplying premium sanitary ware and bathroom solutions to high-end residential and hospitality developments across Indonesia.
According to the companies, the partnership seeks to challenge the conventional approach to home cleaning products, many of which still rely heavily on harsh chemicals and synthetic fragrances.
“Home care products are usually treated as purely functional, so there hasn’t been much attention paid to the ingredients they contain,” said Ria Templer, Director of Utama Spice.
“We wanted to create products that are highly effective without relying on unnecessarily harsh chemicals that can damage surfaces and be harmful for people and the planet,” she added.
The first product introduced through the collaboration is a plant-powered limescale remover formulated to tackle hard water stains and mineral deposits commonly found in Indonesian bathrooms.
The product utilizes a triple-acid blend of citric, gluconic, and lactic acids designed to break down limescale buildup on surfaces such as shower glass, tiles, faucets, and bathroom fixtures.
In addition to its cleaning capabilities, the formula incorporates biodegradable plant-based surfactants and essential oils, offering a more natural alternative to conventional bathroom cleaners while maintaining strong performance.
One of the product’s standout features is its compatibility with brass fixtures, a material often vulnerable to damage from many commercial limescale removers. The formulation was developed with consideration for modern bathroom environments, reflecting Ahti Interiors’ experience in design-conscious spaces and Utama Spice’s expertise in natural ingredient innovation.
For Ahti Interiors, the partnership aligns with changing attitudes toward home design and the role of bathrooms within contemporary living spaces.
“Bathrooms today are no longer treated as purely functional spaces,” said Erica, Marketing Manager of Ahti Interiors.
“People invest in natural materials, carefully selected fixtures, and spaces designed to feel calmer and more comfortable to live in. We felt the products used to maintain those spaces should reflect the same level of care,” she explained.
The companies believe the launch reflects a broader trend where consumers increasingly seek products that integrate wellness, sustainability, functionality, and thoughtful design.
While eco-friendly cleaning solutions are not new, both brands say there remains significant opportunity within Indonesia’s market for products that balance cleaning effectiveness with material compatibility and environmentally conscious living.
Additional products are currently in development as part of the partnership, signaling a longer-term commitment to creating home care solutions that support both modern lifestyles and sustainable practices.
The inaugural product from the collaboration, the Ahti × Utama Spice Limescale Remover, is scheduled to be available through Utama Spice stores and online channels.
Founded in 1989 by Melanie Templer and Dayu Suci, Utama Spice has become one of Bali’s best-known natural wellness brands, focusing on responsibly sourced ingredients, environmental stewardship, and community empowerment. Guided by the Balinese philosophy of Tri Hita Karana, the company continues to promote sustainable living through products that support both personal wellbeing and environmental health. (*)
